Back from the underground

Hello there you guys,

it’s been a while and a lot has happened since I’ve written a blog post. I hope you’re all healthy, are wearing your masks in public spaces and protecting each other.

Here’s to a better 2021, let’s get that vaccination in and hug friends again once this damn pandemic is over. Don’t lose hope. Escape into books, do things with your hands. I’ve actually started knitting and crocheting, if you want to see my journey on that, check out my Instagram account.

Until next year.

Where I’ve been and what happened (TW: depression, suicidal thoughts)

This will be quite hard to write, as the possibility of this being very public and seen by a lot of people exists, and I have still not recovered from what has been going on the past year. I’ll keep it as short and understandable as possible, but please understand that I will not give out more detail about this; than I am about to type right now. If I ever do feel like specifying, then I will do so myself. Any comprehension issues I’m happy to answer, though! Let’s start with the “easy, normal” stuff. I got into my first relationship at the beginning of 2018. We had a wonderful time then, it ended just a short three months after. There’s really not much more to say about it. I drifted farther into depression and suicidal thoughts than ever before. It got… bad. Like, really bad. Looking back, I don’t know how I just kept putting one foot in front of the other. Am I ashamed? No. Do I struggle laying this out without any point of protecting myself? Yeah, sort of. But I’ve started working on it, I’m taking medication, I’m going to therapy, I have a wonderful, loving boyfriend who is my rock when I need him. Before you ask, we got together just over a year ago. We both study computer science, but he’s almost done – whereas I basically am just starting.

University has been hard, really hard. It got worse after failing exams. I lost my hope and trust in being smart enough to get through it all. I lost energy and happiness due to depression. Struggled to just keep myself somewhat presentable, and act as if I was still a functioning human being. Inside… nothing was working. Festival: Summer Breeze 2018

Hey guys!

It’s been a while since I’ve shared anything on here and I sort of have forgotten how to start and what to include in blog posts, so I’ll just write off the top of my head and share with you how amazing my first real festival was! This summer I’ve been to free of charge festivals like Ract! and KuRT. Then I spontaneously joined a group of friends to go to the Summer Breeze festival in southern Germany. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s one of the biggest metal festivals in Germany and I had tons of fun!

Here’s some impressions:

As you can see I got to meet annisokay and got the CD signed. I highly recommend checking them out if you haven’t yet! See below for their newest music video.

Here’s the bands I got to see over the course of the festival: Sirenia, annisokay, Saltatio Mortis, Beartooth, Alestorm, Feuerschwanz, Papa Roach, Carpenter Brut, Orden Ogan, j.b.o., Schandmaul, Behemoth, Powerwolf, Korpiklaani, Dirk Schneider and a few minutes of W.a.s.p. and Broken Teeth.

My highlights by far were annisokay, Beartooth, Carpenter Brut and Papa Roach. Sirenia, Powerwolf and Orden Ogan were a lot of fun as well. Dirk Schneider, W.a.s.p. and Broken Teeth didn’t cut it for me and I wouldn’t go to see any of them again but I saw a lot of other people having fun at their shows so if you like their records I’m sure you’d enjoy them live as well.

Have you been to a festival this year or maybe even Summer Breeze? Do you know any of these Bands? Let me know!

A glimpse into my thoughts

I think the hardest part about hurting is that it feels endless; like nothing will ever be right again and that you’ll always resemble a shattered version of yourself. On the flip side, happiness feels temporary, you’re expecting the good times to end. When you’re happy, truly happy, all the pain you’ve ever felt fades into nothing. You’re on top of the world, invincible, strong, it’s as if you could move not only mountains – but galaxies. Maybe this is why we suffer in silence, consumed by the expectation to not be okay. To look forward means ignoring the obstacles. To heal means welcoming happiness into your life before it has arrived. The possibility of getting hurt shouldn’t overshadow your chance to be happy.

Life update: Where I’ve been

Hi everyone,

it’s been more than seven months since I uploaded a Blog post. I’m sorry for just disappearing without warning and not having read/commented any of your posts. My wifi at home was suddenly off, so I was left with only the internet connection on my phone. Anyway, now the wifi is (finally) fixed and I can’t wait to get back into blogging! There’s been so many songs that I listened to and wanted to talk about, even a few books; but couldn’t. Prepare yourselves for a load of posts in the next few days/weeks, because these posts have been piling up and I really need to get all these thoughts out into the world! Haha.

What have you guys been up to? I’ll go through as many of your posts as soon as I can. Feel free to link me to one of your favorite newly written (so, a post from Feb to now)
blog posts if you’d like and I’ll check it out!

Have a good day,
Yasaman (Btw you can also call me Jasmine if you want, it’s the english translation 😉 )

A song to get you through

Hi guys!

It’s been two weeks since my last post and I thought after all the news that keep hitting people in the face every day, I’d share a song that deals with exactly these issues and the thoughts you might have.

My life has become more turbulent again and I didn’t feel like Blogging, therefore I’m likely going to keep writing short posts like this one in between to have at least a little bit of content.

This isn’t a review, simply a recommendation. I hope you like this track. Let me know what you think of it!

One Year Anniversary and Announcement / January 9th 2017

1anni

Hi! Yes, you read that right, it’s been one year since I’ve started this Blog. Exciting and also weird, because it sure didn’t feel like a full 12 months. At all.

Here’s how it all started, this was my first post on this Blog. Click on the link if you’re interested in looking back at it.

Here’s some statistics of 2016:

The most popular post of 2016 was the single review of Knock Me Off My Feet by Dan Talevski. Read it here, if you haven’t already.

Moving on to the announcement! I currently can’t afford the giveaway I want to do, which consists of a combination of things… so I thought it would be a good idea to share what has been in the works for some weeks now (months, actually) – you can request a customized playlist! You’ll get between 8 to 15 tracks per playlist. Read more about how to request one here. (The page is still in the works, but will be finished by Wednesday, so don’t forget to check back!)

A few ideas for specific playlists you can request:

  • workout
  • wedding
  • inspirational
  • based on emotion (sad, angry, happy, in love, … you get the idea)
  • car drives
  • discover new genres
  • anything you come up with

If you need the playlist until a certain date, tell me in the subject so I can get back to you and let you know if I can fit your request in my schedule. Always consider that I’ll need at least a week to put one playlist together. If I only have one week, there won’t be as many songs, so it’s best to request two weeks in advance. (I might change the amount of time I need to create a playlist along the way, depending on my schedule apart from the blog, so always check this link, since I’ll update the page, not this post) If you want more than one playlist, you’ll logically have to wait longer. I’m asking you to not request more than one (absolute max. is two) playlists at once and only once every month, so that I can provide as many of you with a list as I can. Requesting playlists is, of course, free! I’m not doing this as a professional, therefore please bear with me.

Send your requests to this email: followingmuses@yahoo.com

Disclaimer: You’re only getting the playlist, not the songs, so I recommend you use a streaming service, YouTube or SoundCloud. Personally, I’ve been using Deezer (the free plan, it’s with ads, read here why I – currently – don’t pay for a streaming service. I’ll probably write a new post as to why I’m considering to start using the paid Deezer Plan – which I used for 3 months as they offered it for 99 Cents. Let me know if you’re interested in reading that.)

Last year I focused on 70% (?) books and 30% (? I didn’t calculate this, just guessing here) music, this year I want to spread my content more evenly on books, music, tv series/movies and articles and discussions. Hopefully you’ll enjoy most of what’s coming!

There will also be a new meme that I’m working on, hopefully I’ll introduce you all to it in spring, once I got the hang of my schedule with the playlist making, blogging in general and life.

I hope all of you had a great day! Here’s to another year of Following Muses.

Note: it was one minute before January 10th when this went up, in Germany anyway.

Life update: On time management, reading slumps and NaNoWriMo

Hello everyone! I’m back from the dead! Literally… life got the best of me and between trying to stay on top of everything going on apart from this Blog, trying to move forward in terms of the always growing to-do list and winter arriving in Germany, I caught a cold that wasn’t your normal “I can still somewhat function” type of cold. Feeling terrible is even worse when you don’t look sick (so everyone thinks you’re exaggerating), but have a fever that’s slowly cooking you from the inside and a voice that’s suddenly two octaves deeper (are prank calls still a thing? Perfect opportunity.)

im dead inside.gif

Anyway, here I am at 2am writing a life update, for everyone who might be interested in what I’ve been up to!

Time management can take a toll on all of us, and it sure did take me a lot of willpower to keep moving, to not give up and lose sight of the bigger picture. It was hard. It still is, but as the year is slowly (or rather fast. How is it almost December already? Time is an interesting concept…) coming to a close, I’m hoping to start energized and with more strength into the new year! Speaking of hopes, I’m also hoping to finally revive this little corner of the Internet after barely reading, commenting, writing anything. Did anybody else have trouble with time management? Let me know by leaving a comment, and if you have any tips, I’d love to hear them!

The reading slump is still going strong. No matter what book I start, I don’t get past the 25% mark. It just won’t happen. This must be a curse, I’m sure of that. The goal was to read 40 books this year, so far I’ve read nine. I’m not kidding you, that’s really it. This is the cold truth. Blaming it on 2016. It’s a legit excuse now. Feel free to quote me on this.

Now to the fun part, NaNoWriMo! I’m participating for the first time ever! Planned on participating one day since 2014, but the time never seemed right. Considering everything that’s going on currently, it still isn’t the right time. BUT I got an email from Novlr, which I’ve been using since it first came out. Actually, even before that, it was free back then and still in development. (They’re adding new features all the time, too!) Anyway, they said Novlr is free for the whole month of November and of course I had to participate! Just for the sake of participating. There’s no way I will get close to writing 50k words, a miracle would be needed. My current word count is 4,619. Better than nothing, right? If you’re participating as well, add me as a writing buddy!

How have you been up to? What did I miss?

PS: I’m currently working on a new feature (monthly or biweekly) to include on this blog, so keep an eye out for that! It’ll hopefully be finished around new years eve and uploaded within the first week of 2017.
